Overview

Prairie Creek follows the Northfield Public School closings on days when there’s inclement weather. Because of the rural nature of our setting the school in rare instances may also close on additional days. Families are notified about closing through our School Messenger system (email, text, voicemail).

Late start

If there is a late start or closing for the whole day, the Prairie Creek office will be notified by Northfield Public Schools and will email out an announcement promptly to all families.  We will also send a text message and an automated phone message.

A late start means that transportation and the school day begin two hours later. For Prairie Creek this means that school begins at 10:15 am on late-start days. If there is a late start on Wednesday morning, there will be no before school care.

Early dismissal

An early dismissal means that students will be dismissed from school two hours early. For Prairie Creek, this means that school will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. If there is an early dismissal, there will be no After School Care.

Getting the info

There are three assured ways of finding out if Prairie Creek will be closed for weather-related reasons:

-PCCS will use our School Messenger system to notify families with a text, phone call and email
-WCCO-AM + KYMN-AM radio (1080 AM) broadcasts closings starting at 6:00 am
-The Northfield School District posts updates on its “School Closing” link

When there is the possibility of school closing early due to weather or emergency, we ask that parents not call the school, as we need all lines open to contact families. If we are unable to reach a household by phone or email, we will keep a child at school until we can.
